Volvo's E.V.A. Initiative to Ensure Car Safety Equality

E.V.A (Equality Vehicles for All)

In 2020 Volvo Cars’ Accident Research Team has compiled real-world crash data since the 1970s to better understand what happens during a collision - regardless of size, gender, or body shape. They claim that since 2019 they have shared the results of more than 40 years of research which will change the face of safety for female drivers and passengers.

WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System)

To combat whiplash they have integrated a Whiplash Protection System, WHIPS, which blends their head and spine-protecting seat design with a robust head restraint.

SIPS (Side Impact Protection System)

SIPS (Side Impact Protection System), an innovation introduced by Volvo, utilizes an intelligent structure to enhance the safety of the vehicle. The system, in combination with a side-impact airbag, effectively decreases severe chest injuries by over 50% for all occupants, making it a significant advancement in vehicle safety technology.

The Inflatable Curtain

The Inflatable Curtain airbag is another safety feature that reduces the possibility of head injuries by approximately 75%. Its inflation time is only 1/25th of a second, which helps to safeguard the head from hitting external objects or other elements during a collision. This airbag system was the first to provide enhanced protection for both front and rear seat occupants, thereby taking side impact protection to the next level.

Seatbelts

To learn more about the mother and her unborn baby, Volvo developed the world’s first average-sized pregnant crash test 'dummy'. It is a computer model that makes it possible to study how the occupant moves and how the safety belt and airbag affect the woman and foetus.

Just a Claim?

In the next blog post, I will be sharing my experience of speaking with Volvo professionals within this scheme and the insights I have gained. Is it really more than just a claim?
